Muslims in a Metropolis: Milan Experience

Milan is a big multiethnic city where different cultures and religions are currently living together. Muslims are just a part of this coloured and animated scenario.

I've had occasion to meet some Muslims and their families for a study related to a business project. I tried to be a respectful and careful photographer when attending their Arabic language and Islamic religion lessons (to children and to adults), when remaining at their side during the prayer, when learning about their welcome practice with milk and dates, when documenting their fast closing after a Ramadan day, when listening to the related long praying moment in the Mosque.

There was not enough time for me to get to know this culture better and to go deeper their religious beliefs. But exactly for this reason this reportage can perfectly reflect how a common person can see and meet Islam on a daily basis and without any specific background, just by taking a normal approach to these people as other "citizens" of a big city like Milan.

I've found this experience extremely interesting and enriching for myself.

Outside the Mosque, a label attached on a wall in the yard reported in Italian "Il terrorismo non ha religione," or "terrorism hasn't got any religion". That picture is not in this selection, but it's in my heart. And I also believe it's clear and transparent enough in the soul of the humanity.
